Abstract:
This project describes the proposal of a design for a stand-alone digital manuscript e-reading device, for the performing musician. A review of previous related work in this field is presented, and the pros and cons are examined. Digital sheet music file formats are assessed. Some relevant hardware and software elements are studied at length, although, given the limited time for the project there are more yet to be studied. Design possibilities are discussed and proposed. Prototype evaluation software, to emulate the physical layout of the device and some of its intended functionality is created. Finally, areas of further study and development are identified to further advance the work undertaken.
