Abstract:
This thesis comprises an analytical and comparative study of selected piano music written for children by contemporary Irish composers with an emphasis on the pedagogical aspects of selected works written by a representative selection of composers such as Seoirse Bodley, Brian Boydell, John Buckley, John Gibson, Philip Martin, John McLachlan, Marion Ingoldsby, and Frank Corcoran. The research concentrates on music written in a simple style rather than music that may evoke childhood but is of a more advanced standard. Each piecees is examined under various pedagogical and analytical criteria.
